In case you’re still in the dark concerning what the big-screen version of Stephenie Meyer’s The Host is about, this should clue you in: it ain’t Twilight.

E! News has obtained an exclusive one-minute trailer of the highly anticipated sci-fi thriller based on the famed author’s tome of the same name. And by the looks of things, stars Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons (son of Jeremy Irons) have their work cut out for them if they intend to save humanity from an invasion of parasitic aliens known as The Souls.

The Host author Stephenie Meyers, Max Irons and Jake Abel talk about the “Love Box”
The teaser finds Meyer forgoing the bloodsucking that marked her previous books in favor of body snatching with the tale of a young woman named Melanie Stryder who finds her corporal being inhabited by a Soul named Wanderer.

Refusing to bend to Wanda’s will—the two, in fact, develop an emotional connection—she sets off with her lover, Jared Howe (Irons), for the Arizona desert to find surviving humans who want Mel/Wanda’s help to figure out a way to extract the invaders. All the while, they’re being chased by the head Soul named The Seeker (Diane Kruger).

The Host, directed by Andrew Niccol (In Time), takes hold in theaters next Friday.
